About us

Everyone deserves decent health care.

Not everyone receives it. MedEquity is a Dutch foundation working to close part of that gap by making sure the medical equipment that reaches hospitals is needed, and keeps working.

Our mission

Partnerships that put the recipient first.

We use our experience and international network to build partnerships between medical institutions, focused on the availability and functionality of medical equipment. Together with these partners, we are creating a demand-driven system of donations, in which equipment is used sustainably.

Today, donations too often start from a surplus. A well-funded hospital buys, say, a new MRI scanner and donates the old one to a foundation, which ships it to a partner abroad. On arrival, or soon after, the machine falls out of use: it wasn’t needed, it breaks down, or no one can operate it. An estimated 40 to 70 percent of donated medical equipment ends up unused within a short time. Instead of valuable assets, these donations become costly burdens.

MedEquity only provides what is in demand. Recipient institutions get what they ask for, donor institutions meet their sustainability goals, and health care improves where it is needed most.

Our vision

The full package: purchasing, logistics, education and service.

The gap in health care has many causes, and differences in wealth are the biggest. A hospital in the Netherlands is relatively well resourced; many hospitals elsewhere in the world are not. One way to narrow that gap is to make sure every medical institution has basic medical equipment that is both available and working.

We want to build long-lasting partnerships and act as the link between supply and demand, so that recipient hospitals receive what they truly need. Over time, we aim to provide the full package: not just the equipment a hospital asks for, but also the purchasing, logistics, training and servicing around it.

Boots on the ground

A board on both sides of every partnership.

MedEquity was founded in the Netherlands by a young, international board with experience in the field. Board members in donor countries build relationships with hospitals and medical institutions that have equipment to spare. Board members who live in the regions we work with do the same on the demand side.

For them, the stakes are personal: it is their own country’s health care they are working to improve. Their local networks let us validate needs on the ground and follow up after equipment arrives.

Where we are now

Starting small, on purpose.

MedEquity was incorporated in July 2026. As a new foundation, we are deliberately starting with one recipient institution and one donor institution. This lets us build experience and refine our model before scaling up.

Where possible, we work with existing organisations that already hold the equipment our recipients need. In the longer term, we aim to build a network of volunteer experts, such as biomedical and mechanical engineers, who travel with the equipment to train doctors and local technicians to use and maintain it.
